Two years in with promising perspectives
Two years on the road to success: WJ POWER GmbH is growing - and has become a well-established player in the market. The Kiel-based CHP specialists develop, produce and sell highly efficient and environmentally friendly basic gas engines for CHP applications in the power range from 38 to 100 kW and work closely with Wulf Johannsen KG GmbH & Co.
"As a fresh team, we have mastered the challenges of setting up the company and establishing it in the market successfully," summarises Managing Director Jan-Willem Storm. It all began in July 2018 with the takeover of the basic gas engine business of HMG, which had been dissolved by HOECKLE Motors GmbH. WJ POWER optimized all processes, expanded the range of services and improved workflows. Above all, this has made the company more efficient and competitive. Regardless of whether development, production, sales or spare parts: "We are not only growing in terms of quantity, but also ensure the highest quality of our performance and services at all times - in all business areas."
The committed start is now paying off: The fact that WJ POWER has already made a name for itself in the German market is confirmed by the current CHP ranking of the trade magazine "Energie & Management": Two of the top ten CHP manufacturers in Germany (by number of modules) rely on WJ POWER engines for their systems. The groundwork for international growth has also been laid: Through a sales partnership with the Czech company HT EXTRA, the young company is initially focusing on targeted market development in Eastern Europe, covering the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Serbia and Croatia.
Success factors: Strong network, research spirit and innovation
Due to the affiliation to the STORM group the technicians can exchange experiences and share knowledge about current projects within the network. "It has been shown that we are able to flexibly implement even short-term requirements of our customers in this way", says Storm. "Within our group of companies we have access to bundled know-how and established infrastructures, which we can use at any time."
The cooperation with the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences also provides the North Germans with a clear competitive advantage. The experts advise and help to further develop promising product ideas. In this manner, current problems can be solved or innovative technologies advanced. "EGRreact" is currently a research project on a combustion process for small gas-powered CHPs, which will make it possible to comply with stricter limits for NOx emissions in the future while at the same time increasing efficiency through an innovative exhaust gas recirculation system. In addition, an optimized gas management system has recently enabled the efficiency of a model to be further advanced. Other extensive projects are currently being developed. " Our key motivation is and will always be to promptly integrate the latest scientific findings into our products and thus create attractive offers for our customers. It also aims to reliably meet future legal requirements and limits," says Storm.
On the road to success with a strong team
The crucial contribution to growth and success is attributed to highly motivated employees. "Our energetic team brings with it sound engineering knowledge, drive and innovative ideas. We all work together for the same goal. Thanks to this team spirit, we are able to offer customers tailored solutions for their specific needs. Without such motivated collaboration, WJ POWER would not be able to look back on such prosperous two years," says Storm with gratitude.
Flexibility pays off - even in crisis situations
WJ POWER was able to quickly adapt to the challenges of the current Corona crisis. With the advice of competent occupational health and safety experts from the STORM group, a reliable hygiene concept for the health protection of employees and customers was immediately developed, enabling production and deliveries to be maintained without downtime. The expansion of contactless service and flexible response to customer requirements ensure that WJ POWER will remain a reliable partner for its customers.
Optimistic outlook to the future
The conditions for future success are therefore also good. "In order to grow," says Storm, "we need to be with our customers." WJ POWER wants to gain further market share. That's why it is important to continue developing attractive products and services in the future, always focusing on actual customer benefits. The currently growing sales team will continue to be represented at relevant trade fairs in addition to maintaining constant contact with customers; next on the agenda is the CHP annual conference in Dresden on November 10 and 11, 2020.
Jan-Willem Storm is confident about the future: "In the first two years we have created a solid foundation with dynamic growth and also proved that we remain a reliable partner for our customers even in unusually challenging times. But we are not about to rest on our laurels. Our goals are set - we look forward to achieving them together with our customers and partners!"
